The Color of Success

Many times, men are scared of the color pink. It is time to add a dose of color to your typical black, gray, brown, and white wardrobe! Let’s go back to a time where pink meant something a little different. During the Elizabethan era, English Law dictated the color pink; Sumptuary Laws restricted expensive dress in order to curb extravagance and protect fortunes. Apparently, pink dealt with status during that era, which leads me to this day and age where you can wear pink freely and it can mean whatever you would like.

Right now, it is all about acquainting yourselves with the underestimated power of pink! Do not be afraid of color, especially in the summer. Light and bright hues enhance your natural skin and hair tone. There is no longer anything feminine about pink. In fact, it is easy to coordinate with almost every color, compliments medium to dark complexions, and when paired with more harsh colors, it provides a cool contrast. A man who wears pink exudes confidence, yet is sensitive.

Pink is the base color of many fine dress shirts, neckties, and pocket squares and is one of the more common colors for a contrast-collared shirt, alongside baby blue. Shades of this color are youthful, vibrant, alluring, and known to have a subtle calming effect. Pairing a baby pink dress shirt with a mocha colored garment works well on most men; another distinctive combo is pink with chocolate brown or light gold. Pink t-shirts and polo’s were very popular in the 80s and have made a comeback in casual fashion for men. Strong tones such as magenta, fuchsia, and salmon add a bold finesse, while softer pinks such as pastel or coral offer a more formal touch. Pairing a powerful shade of pink with jet-black is a chic look that speaks confidence in volumes!

Speaking of confidence, power dressing focuses on men dressing for success on the job — climate friendly clothing, accessorizing, wearing the right shoes, quality, and most importantly preparing early. Dressing for the job decides what you wear based on where you work. Climate friendly clothing deals with fabrics and colors. When it gets hotter, colors and fabrics should be lighter. Accessorizing deals with adding items such as cufflinks, tiepins, or a pocket square, this adds a little more sophistication to your suit. The right shoes and a quality suit complete the professional look. It is important that your tie and shirt match, but you can play around with having a funkier pattern on your tie. (It must MATCH).

Preparing early is key, knowing that what you wear represents you as a person. Remember what and whom you are dressing for, and that should determine your objective. Men, remember that pink can add a bit of flavor to your wardrobe. Try to think outside the box and be conscious of the image you are trying to convey. Having a goal with your attire makes a huge difference.
